Chapter 25
RESURRECTION TO ETERNAL LIFE
In Chapter 7 we found that in addition to making atonement for the forgiveness of our sins, Jesus Christ, through His death and resurrection, also redeemed us, that is bought us back from our bondage to sin and the evil one. We also found this redemption consists of two parts. The first part, which we covered in Chapter 7, is that part of our redemption we can begin to experience now. Specifically, it is our redemption from the power of sin or bondage to sin. The second part, which is yet to come, is our redemption from the power of death and the influence of Satan. It is this second aspect of our redemption that is the subject of this last and final chapter. Specifically, in this chapter we will explore our resurrection to eternal life. We will see that it is at this time we will finally be set free from the influence of Satan and his followers and spend the rest of eternity in the actual presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Before we explore this second aspect of our redemption, let us pray,
Dear Heavenly Father,
I come before You in the Name of Your only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Father, please open my eyes, my ears and my heart so I can begin to truly understand the tremendous Grace and Mercy that You have extended to me. Lord, please help me to see and never forget Your promise for my faith in You, that is my resurrection to eternal life with You.
Amen
INTRODUCTION
Perhaps the best way to begin this study is to ask ourselves, "Why should a person be born again? (or) What is the purpose or promise of the believer’s faith?" A key to finding the answer to these questions is given to us by the Holy Spirit as He spoke through the Apostle Paul concerning the certainty of our resurrection to eternal life in,
1 Corinthians 15:19
"[19] If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men."
In other words, as we previously found in Chapter 24, if it is only for blessings in this life we have hope and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, then we have missed the point; we have come far short of understanding our Lord’s plan.
To see this we will,
Finally, we will then,
With the above introduction, we begin our study with a quick review of the primary reason our Father sent His Son Jesus Christ to this earth. Specifically,
JESUS CAME TO SAVE US FROM OUR SINS
To see this let us first read a portion of a vision that our Lord gave to the Apostle John concerning the upcoming judgment of all peoples.
Revelation 20:11-15
"[11] Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. [12] And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. [13] The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. [14] Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. [15] If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire."
It is important for us to notice the following verse,
15 … Anyone whose name is not written in the Book of Life will be thrown into the Lake of Fire.
Given that this judgment awaits you and I, and that we do not want to be thrown into the Lake of Fire, it is imperative for us to know how a person is selected to have their name written in the Book of Life. To find out let us reflect upon the reason why God the Father sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to this earth. His purpose is recorded in,
John 3:16-17
""[16] For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him."
Let us notice the following verses,
16 … In other words whoever believes in Jesus will not perish, that is be cast into the Lake of Fire, but will have eternal life, that is their name will be written in the Book of Life. (Please see Chapter 14 on what it means to believe in Jesus)
17 … As we saw in Chapters 5, 6 and 7 of this book the whole purpose of Jesus’ visit to this earth was to save us from eternal damnation, that is the Lake of Fire, and give us eternal life with Him.
In Chapters 5, 6 and 7 we also found that this gift of salvation, that is eternal life, is free. Specifically, God's gift of eternal life is not something we can earn. It is only through God’s Grace and Mercy that He offers it to us. As a reminder, let us read the following excerpt from Paul’s letter to the church in Ephesus,
Ephesians 2:8-9
"[8] For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- [9] not by works, so that no one can boast."
In other words, in our fallen state of humanity we are unable to comply with all of God’s commands and ordinances so as to deserve or earn eternal life with Him. For if we could, then Jesus’ death on the cross was pointless,
Galatians 2:21
"[21] I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!""
However, since this free gift of eternal life is the most precious possession in all creation and even though we can not earn it, we should be willing to forsake all the earthly things we possess for it. In other words there is a,
COST OF DISCIPLESHIP
To see this, let us read two parables that Jesus used to describe the Kingdom of Heaven. They are given in,
Matthew 13:44-46
""[44] The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. [45] "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. [46] When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it."
Before we move on to see what the resurrection to eternal life will be like, let us first explore a bit further the depth of the meaning of these two parables. To do this we will,
As we study the Scriptures we find that from an earthly or materialistic view point, the cost of being a disciple of Jesus Christ can be quite high. For example, our Lord tells us that while living upon this earth,
We Are To Daily Pick Up Our Cross And Follow Him
To see this, let us read what Jesus said relative to the worldly cost of following Him in,
Luke 9:23-26
"[23] Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. [24] For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. [25] What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self? [26] If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels."
Let us notice the following verses,
23-24 … A true disciple of Jesus Christ lives for Him and not for themselves, that is they have dedicated their lives to Him.
25 … In other words, even though I may have amassed great possessions and achieved great heights within my profession, but if in the process of doing this I lost eternal life, what good was all my short term earthly success?
26 … If we are ashamed to be identified as a disciple, that is a follower, of Jesus here upon this earth, then we can expect Jesus to be ashamed of us when He comes for His church.
These are very sobering words. In effect Jesus is teaching us that to truly be a disciple of His, from an earthly standpoint, may require a great sacrifice on our part. For an illustration of how significant this sacrifice or cross might be, we find that one of the reasons many Jews refused to confess and follow Jesus was if they did they would be thrown out of the synagogue. In other words, they would be disowned by the community in which they lived and cherished. To see this, let us read from,
John 12:42-43
"[42] Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not confess their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; [43] for they loved praise from men more than praise from God."
Let us notice the following verse,
42 … They actually believed in Him! However, because of the fear of being an outcast, they did not follow their convictions.
43 … These people loved the fleeting praises of men more than the eternal praises from God. They either did not consider or truly understand the eternal consequences of not being a born again disciple or follower of Jesus Christ.
On the other hand, in spite of the great sacrifices, many did and do faithfully follow the Lord Jesus Christ. For example, in the New Testament we read that after Peter’s message on the day of Pentecost approximately 3,000 people became disciples of Jesus Christ (Acts 2:41).
With respect to today, let us recall that in Chapter 1 of this book we found that even though countries and cultures such as Afghanistan, Albania, Uganda and Malaysia are openly hostile to Christians, many people daily pick up their crosses and are faithful to our Lord Jesus Christ.
Another way to look at Jesus' command to daily pick up our cross is to realize that as born again believers,
Our Love For God And His Kingdom Is To Surpass Our Love For The Things Of This World
To see this, let us read from,
1 John 2:15-17
"[15] Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. [16] For everything in the world--the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does--comes not from the Father but from the world. [17] The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever."
A New Testament example of a person who loved God more than the things of this world is Zacchaeus. To see this, let us read from,
Luke 19:1-10
"[1] Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. [2] A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. [3] He wanted to see who Jesus was, but being a short man he could not, because of the crowd. [4] So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. [5] When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today." [6] So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. [7] All the people saw this and began to mutter, "He has gone to be the guest of a 'sinner.'" [8] But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, "Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount." [9] Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. [10] For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.""
Let us notice the following verses,
2 … Zacchaeus, being a chief tax collector, held a very responsible position for the Roman government. In addition, he was quite wealthy. In other words, Zacchaeus was a man of means in a very prominent position.
3-4 … Not caring what people would say or think, Zacchaeus humbled himself and like a child climbed up a tree to see Jesus. In contrast to those who feared of being thrown out of the synagogue, Zacchaeus was more interested in seeing Jesus than in preserving his reputation.
8 … Here we get insight into the fruits of the spirit of repentance that flooded the heart of Zacchaeus.
9-10 … Jesus gives Zacchaeus the free gift of eternal life.
Another example where people loved God more than earthly possessions is given to us in the book of Hebrews. To see this, let us read where the Holy Spirit encourages the people, who were being persecuted, to endure.
Hebrews 10:32-39
"[32] Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you stood your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering. [33] Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated. [34] You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions. [35] So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. [36] You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. [37] For in just a very little while, "He who is coming will come and will not delay. [38] But my righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him." [39] But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved."
Let us notice the following verses,
32-33 … When they became believers they endured great insults and persecutions.
34 … In fact, their persecutions were so severe that they even had their earthly possessions taken away. Notice, they joyfully accepted this persecution. The reason they had this joyful attitude was that they knew they had the most precious possession waiting for them, that is eternal life with God Almighty!
35-39 … Here the Holy Spirit encourages them and us to not regress back into a worldly mindset, but to continue and follow their faith. The outcome will be the salvation of their souls.
In addition to daily picking up our cross and loving God more than anything else, we also must realize that,
We Are Not More Privileged Than Our Lord Jesus Christ
Thus, if the non believing world persecuted Jesus, then being His disciple we too can expect the same. To see this, let us read from,
John 15:18-21
""[18] If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. [19] If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. [20] Remember the words I spoke to you: 'No servant is greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. [21] They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the One who sent me."
Let us notice the following verses,
19 … As a born again believer we must not forget that our citizenship is now in Heaven. As we found in Chapter 12 of this book, we are now pilgrims and strangers in this world.
21 … It is interesting to note that those who persecute God’s people really do not know God. This includes those who claim to be religious or claim to inflict persecution in the name of God. The reason being is that if they know or love God, then they would love Jesus (John 8:42). If they love Jesus then they would not persecute but love His disciples.
As an illustration of this truth we find in the New Testament that people like John the Baptist (Matthew 14:1-12), Stephen (Acts 7:57-60) and James (Acts 12:1-2) were martyred, that is put to death, because of their faith in Jesus Christ. It is interesting to note that these people were put to death by people like King Herod, the Chief Priests and members of the Sanhedrin, all who claimed to love and worship God.
This persecution and martyrdom of people for their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ continues today. In fact, in the book, "By Their Blood"
1 by James and Marti Hefley that provides a historical account of the 20th century martyrs, we find that in the 20th century alone approximately 119 million Christians have been martyred for their faith.Even though in this life we go through self denial, suffering and possibly persecution or martyrdom, as we saw in Chapter 18,
We Should Rejoice In Our Sufferings For Christ
We ought to rejoice because we are on our way to receiving the prize, that is eternal life with our Lord. To see this, let us consider two things the Holy Spirit said through the Apostle Peter about suffering because of our faith in Jesus.
First He tells us that when we suffer for our faith, we are blessed because God the Holy Spirit rests upon us.
1 Peter 4:12-14
"[12] Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. [13] But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. [14] If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you."
Secondly, He tells us to rejoice because the outcome will be the salvation of our soul,
1 Peter 1:3-9
"[3] Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, [4] and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade--kept in heaven for you, [5] who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. [6] In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. [7] These have come so that your faith--of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire--may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. [8] Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, [9] for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls."
Let us notice the following verses,
6-7 … Even though we may not like the times when we suffer grief and all types of trials, we should rejoice. We are to rejoice because they have been sent for our benefit. The reason for this is because this is God’s way of purifying and proving our faith. As we read in the parables that Jesus used to describe the Kingdom of God, it is this faith that is of more value than all the gold of this world.
Closing
With the above in mind, we clearly see that the life our Lord Jesus Christ calls us to is not a life of earthly self indulgence. It is not a life that promises to make us popular with the world. It is not one in which we should expect great worldly success and financial rewards. No, instead it is a life that promises much greater and more valuable things. It promises us things of great eternal value such as godliness, holiness, the love of God and most important of all, eternal life with Him, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
As we reflect upon these things we may come to the realization that our faith and love for God is not what it should be. If this is the case, what shall we do? As we saw in previous chapters, we must first confess our failings,
1 John 1:9
"[9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."
Then, as we found in Chapter 15, we must spend time reading His word and pray for faith,
Romans 10:17
"[17] … faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ."
This now brings us to the final section of this chapter, that is the outcome of our faith, which is
RESURRECTION TO ETERNAL LIFE
As we found in previous chapters, this event will occur when Jesus Christ comes for His bride, the church, that is the true born again believers. As we reflect upon this glorious promise the following questions come to mind, "What will happen when Jesus comes to gather His disciples? and What will it be like?"
As we search the New Testament for answers to these questions we will find that when Jesus Christ comes for His church,
With the above introduction in mind, let us now explore in more depth that,
All Born Again Believers Will Be Given A Spiritual Body
As we saw in Chapter 24, when Jesus returns to this earth all those who belong to Him will be caught up to meet Him in the clouds. To refresh our memories, let us read from,
1 Thessalonians 4:15-17
"[15] According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. [16] For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. [17] After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever."
Now some, as the Sadducees, may ask, "How can this be? How will this occur? How can the dead be raised?" To find out, let us read what the Holy Spirit, through Paul, said to those in Corinth who asked these same questions. We find His response in,
1 Corinthians 15:35-49
"[35] But someone may ask, "How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?" [36] How foolish! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. [37] When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else. [38] But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body. [39] All flesh is not the same: Men have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another. [40] There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another. [41] The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor. [42] So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; [43] it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; [44] it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. [45] So it is written: "The first man Adam became a living being" ; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. [46] The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. [47] The first man was of the dust of the earth, the second man from heaven. [48] As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the man from heaven, so also are those who are of heaven. [49] And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven."
Notice that in verse 49 we are told that our new body will be like that of Jesus. In thinking about this it may seem too glorious to be true. Thus, to be sure that we have understood this verse correctly, let us read what is written in,
1 John 3:2
"[2] Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is."
Can you just imagine what that will be like? Can you imagine how glorious it will be to see Jesus as He really is and to have a body as He does?
Christ's Thousand Year Reign
As we saw in Chapter 24, after the true born again believers are safely with our Lord Jesus Christ, judgment comes upon those who are not His. We also find at this time, Satan is cast into the bottomless pit. In addition, this is the time when Jesus and those who were faithful to Him will reign for one thousand years. To see this, let us read an excerpt from a description of the vision God gave John concerning these events. It is recorded in,
Revelation 20:1-4
"[1] And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a great chain. [2] He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. [3] He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time. [4] I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his image and had not received his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years."
Thus, we find that when Jesus comes in the last days those who are true born again believers, that is have their names written in the Book of Life, will be caught up to be with Jesus. It is also at this time that they will be given their new spiritual bodies. In addition, at this time Satan will be cast into an abyss. Then, Jesus and those who were resurrected will reign for a thousand years.
However, it does not end here because as we continue our reading in the book of Revelation we find that at the end of Christ's thousand year reign and before the final judgment,
Satan Will Be Released Once More To Deceive The Nations
It is at the end of this period of time when Satan is finally cast into the lake of fire for all eternity. To see all this, let us read from,
Revelation 20:7-10
"[7] When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison [8] and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth--Gog and Magog--to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore. [9] They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God's people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them. [10] And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever."
Once Satan is cast into the lake of fire, then,
The Final Judgment
This is the time of judgement for all mankind, including you and I. To see what will occur, let us read from,
Revelation 20:11-15
Those whose names are written in the Book of Life, that is those who remained true and faithful to our Lord Jesus Christ will finally receive their inheritance, which is eternal life with Him. To see what this will be like, let us read from,
Revelation 21:1-7
"[1] Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. [2] I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. [3] And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. [4] He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." [5] He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true." [6] He said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. [7] He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son."
However, those whose names are not written in the Book of Life will be cast into the lake of fire. They will be with Satan and all his demons for the rest of eternity,
Revelation 21:8
"[8] But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars--their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.""
In reflecting upon the above there is still one more question to be addressed. This question is, "What will the new Heaven and earth be like that the bride of Christ will live in?" To find out, let us read the description of the vision that God gave the Apostle John of,
The New Heaven And Earth
As you read the following Scriptures please keep in mind that God, through John, is using human language to describe a spiritual place. Thus, it contains much imagery and symbolism. With this in mind, let us now read from,
Revelation 21:9-27
"[9] One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, "Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb." [10] And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. [11] It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal. [12] It had a great, high wall with twelve gates, and with twelve angels at the gates. On the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel. [13] There were three gates on the east, three on the north, three on the south and three on the west. [14] The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. [15] The angel who talked with me had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city, its gates and its walls. [16] The city was laid out like a square, as long as it was wide. He measured the city with the rod and found it to be 12,000 stadia in length, and as wide and high as it is long. [17] He measured its wall and it was 144 cubits thick, by man's measurement, which the angel was using. [18] The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass. [19] The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, [20] the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. [21] The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of pure gold, like transparent glass. [22] I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. [23] The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. [24] The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. [25] On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. [26] The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it. [27] Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life."
Let us now continue by reading from,
Revelation 22:1-5
"[1] Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb [2] down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. [3] No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. [4] They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. [5] There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever."
THE MESSAGE
With all the above in mind, one may ask, ‘What is the message of this study? What is the point?"
Actually there are two. The first is directed towards those who may not yet be truly born again. It is given by the Holy Spirit as recorded in,
John 20:31
"[31] … these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name."
The second point is for those who are truly born again. It is given in,
Colossians 3:1-4
"[1] ... you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. [2] Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. [3] For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. [4] When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory."
Let us now close our study by reading the following Psalm of praise,
Psalm 150
"[1] Praise the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. [2] Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. [3] Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, [4] praise him with tambourine and dancing, praise him with the strings and flute, [5] praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. [6] Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD."
Blessed be the Lord forever!
AMEN and AMEN
