Chapter 95

JESUS CHRIST - THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD

Matthew 22:41-46

Before we begin this study let us pray.

          Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ. Father God, as we go through this study please strengthen and quicken our faith, belief and trust that Jesus Christ is truly Your one and only begotten Son.

Amen

INTRODUCTION

We begin our study by reading the following conversation Jesus had with some of the Pharisees. To do this we go to,

Matthew 22:41-46

[41] While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, [42] saying, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He?” They said to Him, “The Son of David.” [43] He said to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call Him Lord,’ saying:

[44] ‘The Lord said to my Lord,

 “Sit at My right hand,

Till I make Your enemies Your footstool”’?

[45] If David then calls Him Lord,’ how is He his Son?” [46] And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor from that day on did anyone dare question Him anymore.

To more fully understand and appreciate this conversation we will now return to the above Scriptures and

          1. Review two reasons why the Pharisees would have believed that Jesus was the Son of David, their new earthly king.

          2. By reviewing Jesus’ spiritual heritage, we will discover why Jesus asked the question; “If King David proclaimed the Christ to be his Lord why do you, the Pharisees, proclaim Him to be King David’s Son?”

          3. Discover that it is God the Father who reveals to us that Jesus Christ is His only begotten Son.

With the above introduction in mind we begin by noting that,

THE PHARISEES PROCLAIMED JESUS TO BE THEIR NEW EARTHLY KING, THE SON OF KING DAVID

To see this let us reread Jesus’ question as recorded in,

Matthew 22:41-42a

[41] While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, [42] saying, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He?”

Let us now reread the Pharisees’ answer to Jesus’ question as it is recorded in,

Matthew 22:42b

They said to Him, “The Son of David.”

This raises the question as to; “Why did the Pharisees, elders and many of the Jews identify Jesus as the Son of David?” To understand why they said this we will find that:

          1. They recognized Jesus’ authority.

          2. They saw and/or heard how Jesus was fulfilling Old Testament prophesies.

With the above in mind, we begin by reviewing some of the reasons that show why the Pharisees, scribes, elders and many of the Israelites

RECOGNIZED JESUS’ AUTHORITY

To see this we will read four of numerous examples that illustrated or revealed Jesus’ authority.

Our first example is that,

Jesus taught with authority

To see, let us go to the end of Jesus sermon’ on the mountain and read the reaction of those who heard Him teach about the Kingdom of God. The Scripture of interest is in,

Matthew 7:28-29

[28] And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, [29] for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

The second example of Jesus’ authority was that,

Jesus was able to miraculously feed thousands of people

To see this let us read about the time when, with only five loaves of bread and two fish, Jesus fed 5,000 men along with all the women and children. This event is recorded in,

Matthew 14:14-21

[14] And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick. [15] When it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, “This is a deserted place, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages and buy themselves food.” [16] But Jesus said to them, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.” [17] And they said to Him, “We have here only five loaves and two fish.” [18] He said, “Bring them here to Me.” [19] Then He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes. [20] So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained. [21] Now those who had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

As we read the New Testament we find that there was another time when Jesus displayed His authority and power to miraculously feed the hungry. This time with seven loaves of bread and a few fish Jesus fed 4,000 men in addition to all the women and children.

To read what happened, we go to,

Matthew 15:32-38

[32] Now Jesus called His disciples to Himself and said, “I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat. And I do not want to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way.” [33] Then His disciples said to Him, “Where could we get enough bread in the wilderness to fill such a great multitude?” [34] Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven, and a few little fish.” [35] So He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. [36] And He took the seven loaves and the fish and gave thanks, broke them and gave them to His disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitude. [37] So they all ate and were filled, and they took up seven large baskets full of the fragments that were left. [38] Now those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children.

For our third example the Bible reveals to us that,

Jesus demonstrated that He had authority over sickness and disease

As we read the Gospels we cannot help but notice all the times Jesus healed the sick and afflicted. A good summary of these works is provided for us in the following account of what Jesus did while traveling throughout Galilee.

Matthew 4:23-25

"[23] Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. [24] News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed, and he healed them. [25] Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him."

In addition to having authority over sickness and disease, the Bible also reveals to us that

Jesus had and has authority over the physical elements

We see this authority when, on His way to the region of the Gadarenes, He calmed a severe storm. To read what occurred we go to,

Matthew 8:23-27

"[23] Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. [24] Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. [25] The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!" [26] He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. [27] The men were amazed and asked, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!""

Let us notice the following verse,

27 …  After this display of Jesus’ authority and power, His disciples came to realize that Jesus was no ordinary man.

In addition, it would be reasonable to assume that after seeing and/or hearing about various displays of Jesus’ authority and power, those who studied or were familiar with the Scriptures, such as the Pharisees, elders, and scribes would believe or come to realize that,

JESUS WAS FULFILLING OLD TESTAMENT PROPHECIES

To see this, we will review three of the many examples of how Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament prophecies.

Before we review these three examples it is extremely important for us to recall the conditions that existed at the time Jesus came to Israel. Specifically, under King Herod, the entire nation of Judah was under subjection to Caesar and the Roman Empire. Thus, other than matters of the Jewish faith all civil laws were administered by the Romans. In addition, taxes to help support the Roman government were imposed and collected from the Jewish population.

With this background the first key Old Testament prophecy the Pharisees, scribes, elders and many of the Jewish people were waiting to be fulfilled was the one that foretold their new King was to be preceded or announced by,

A Voice in the desert or wilderness

To read this prophecy as it was given by the prophet Isaiah, we go to,

Isaiah 40:1-5

"[1] Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. [2] Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her hard service has been completed, that her sin has been paid for, that she has received from the Lord's hand double for all her sins. [3] A voice of one calling: "In the desert prepare the way for the LORD ; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God. [4] Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. [5] And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all mankind together will see it. For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.""

Let us notice the following verses,

1-2 … Through the prophet Isaiah, God told the nation of Israel that a time was coming when their hard service will end and their sin had been paid for. In other words, God, through Isaiah, was foretelling about the time when He would come to deliver them from their bondage to sin.

3a … A messenger will come from the wilderness.

3b-4 … This was a custom of how a path or road was cleared and leveled prior to the arrival of a great dignitary, such as a king. This was done to not only show respect for the king but also to ease the difficulty of the journey. This portion of the prophecy was not intended to be a physical leveling of a road. It was intended to be an analogy for the smoothing out of a spiritual path for the arrival of our Lord Jesus Christ. As we found in Chapter 4 of our “Study of the Gospel according to Matthew”, this prophecy was fulfilled by John the Baptist’s preaching and teaching of repentance.

5 … This prophecy was pointing to the time when the glory of the Lord would be revealed to both the Jew and the Gentile.

For our second example, it is noted that the Old Testament also foretold that, in His time, God was going to raise up

A person who would be like Moses

To read this prophecy let us go to,

Deuteronomy 18:15

[15] “The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear,

By observing or witnessing all the demonstrations and illustrations of Jesus’ authority, the Pharisees, elders, scribes and many of the Jewish people could very easily conclude this prophecy was being fulfilled by Jesus Christ. To see this let us recall some of the miracles and wonders God performed through the hand of Moses.

For example, as Jesus taught with authority, Moses, by the Ten Commandments, also taught with authority.

In reading about Israel’s journey in the wilderness we discover that as Jesus demonstrated His authority to miraculously feed the hungry, so God did through the hand of Moses. God did this by providing, through Moses, bread (which was identified as Manna) to eat (Exodus 16:1-36) and water to drink (Exodus 15:22-27; 17:1-7).

As Jesus healed the sick and diseased so did God through Moses by healing the diseased and stopping various plagues. Two examples of this are when: (1) Through Moses prayer, God miraculously healed Miriam of leprosy (Numbers 12:14-16) and (2) Again through Moses intercessory prayer, the Israelites that were bitten by poisonous snakes were healed (Numbers 21:4-9).

The Old Testament also reveals to us that as Jesus demonstrated authority over the physical elements, God, through Moses, also displayed His power over the physical elements. For example, through Moses, God sent a severe hail storm over Egypt (Exodus 9:13-21). In addition, God through the hand of Moses, parted the Red Sea (Exodus 14:13-31).

Thus, upon seeing and hearing about all the miracles and wonders that occurred through the hand of Jesus many of those who studied and/or knew the Scriptures, such as the Pharisees and scribes, would conclude that Jesus was the fulfillment of the above prophecy.

In addition, let us not forget that it was through the hand of Moses that God delivered the nation of Israel from their bondage to Pharaoh and the Egyptian Empire. Consequently, it would be reasonable for the Pharisees, scribes, elders and many of the people to believe that God had now sent their new king to deliver them from their current subjection or bondage to Caesar and the Roman Empire. In fact, there was a time when the people actually proclaimed this belief and wanted to make or anoint Jesus as their king. However, Jesus would not allow it. This occurred right after Jesus fed the 5,000 men in addition to all the women and children. To read what happened we go to,

John 6:14-15

[14] Then those men, when they had seen the sign that Jesus did, said, “This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world.” [15] Therefore when Jesus perceived that they were about to come and take Him by force to make Him king, He departed again to the mountain by Himself alone.

Our third and last example is the prophecy that foretold,

Their new King would enter Jerusalem on a donkey

To read this prophecy let us go to,

Zechariah 9:9

[9] “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!  Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, Lowly and riding on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.

In chapter 83 of our “Study of the Gospel according to Matthew” we found that Jesus fulfilled this prophecy when He entered into Jerusalem.

With all this in mind, Jesus’ authority and the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies, the Pharisees, elders, scribes and many of the Israelites believed that Jesus was their new king and deliverer.

To see why they believed that Jesus was the Son of King David, let us now read an Old Testament prophesy that foretold that the,

Physical lineage of the Christ was to come from David

To do this we go to the prophecy that was given through God’s prophet Jeremiah. The prophecy of interest is recorded in,

Jeremiah 23:5-6

""[5] The days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will raise up to David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land. [6] In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety. This is the name by which he will be called: The LORD Our Righteousness."

In considering the above prophecy we come to realize that the Pharisees, elders and many of the Jews were correct in believing that Jesus’ physical lineage was that of King David. To verify the validity of this belief we begin by reading Jesus lineage as recorded in,

Matthew 1:1-6a

"[1] A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of David, the son of Abraham: [2] Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,"

"[3] Judah the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar, Perez the father of Hezron, Hezron the father of Ram, [4] Ram the father of Amminadab, Amminadab the father of Nahshon, Nahshon the father of Salmon," "[5] Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth, Obed the father of Jesse, [6] and Jesse the father of King David…,"

It is noted that up to this point of Jesus’ lineage both Joseph's and Mary's genealogies are the same (see Luke 3:23-34 for the lineage of Mary). In other words, from Abraham to King David both Joseph's and Mary's genealogies are identical. However, from King David, Mary's lineage continues from Nathan, one of David's sons, where as Joseph's lineage continues from King Solomon, another one of King David's sons. Consequently, the physical lineage of Jesus Christ completely fulfills the Old Testament prophecies for the ancestry of the promised Messiah.

With the above background in mind let us return to Jesus’ conversation with the Pharisees and reread from

Matthew 22:41-42a

[41] While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, [42] saying, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He?” They said to Him, “The Son of David.”

Unfortunately, the response of the Pharisees was only one half correct. More specifically, the Pharisees did get Jesus’ physical lineage correct. However, they did not understand or were aware of

THE SPIRITUAL LINEAGE OF JESUS CHRIST

To see this we begin by rereading what Jesus said after the Pharisees declared Him to be the Son of David. To do this we return to,

Matthew 22:43-45

[43] He said to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call Him Lord,’ saying:

[44] ‘The Lord said to my Lord,

“Sit at My right hand,

Till I make Your enemies Your footstool”’?

[45] If David then calls Him Lord,’ how is He his Son?”

This raises the question as to; “What was Jesus teaching the Pharisees, elders and many of the Jews then and now us?”

The answer to this question is that as we study the Bible we find that there is more to the lineage of Jesus Christ than what we have just covered. Specifically, we also discover that Jesus Christ was conceived, not by man, but by God the Holy Spirit. To see this we begin by reading

AN OLD TESTAMENT PROPHECY

As with the physical lineage of Jesus Christ we also find that in the Old Testament the spiritual lineage of Jesus was also foretold. Specifically, it tells us that He was to be born of a virgin. To see this let us read the following prophecy by the prophet Isaiah,

Isaiah 7:13-14

"[13] Then Isaiah said, "Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of men? Will you try the patience of my God also? [14] Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel."

To see that the birth of Jesus Christ fulfilled this prophecy for the promised Messiah, let us read about the circumstances surrounding His conception and birth as recorded in,

Matthew 1:18-25

"[18] This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. [19] Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. [20] But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. [21] She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." [22] All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: [23] "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" --which means, "God with us." [24] When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. [25] But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus."

Let us notice the following verses,

18 … Mary was with child before she and Joseph came together, that is consummated their marriage.

20 … An angel told Joseph that what was conceived in Mary is from God the Holy Spirit. In other words, the angel told Joseph that this was a miraculous conception.

21 … Note that Jesus' purpose for coming to earth was to save His people from their sins. In other words, His purpose was not to deliver His people from their subjection to Caesar or the Roman Empire. Instead, His purpose was much more significant and glorious than that. Specifically, His purpose was to not only teach about God’s Kingdom but to also deliver His people and us from their and our bondage to sin.

22-23 … The birth of Jesus Christ fulfilled the prophecy given by Isaiah. Also note that the name Immanuel means … “God with us.”

25 … Because of the great importance and implication of this truth, God the Holy Spirit tells us again that Joseph and Mary had no union till after she gave birth to Jesus.

In addition to being miraculous, the significance of Jesus' virgin birth is that His birth came outside of the natural course of things. More specifically, the Bible teaches us that Jesus Christ was not completely from the lineage of Adam but was begotten of God not man. Thus,

JESUS CHRIST WAS GOD MANIFESTED IN HUMAN FLESH

This is why King David said that the Christ or Messiah, who was and is Jesus Christ, was his (King David’s) Lord. To expand upon the truth of this statement let us first read,

The Witness of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit through the writings of the Apostle John bears witness to the truth of the fact that Jesus Christ was God manifested in the flesh. To see this let us read about the birth of Jesus Christ as recorded in the Gospel according to John.

John 1:1-4

"[1] In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. [2] He was with God in the beginning. [3] Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. [4] In him was life, and that life was the light of men."

Let us notice the following verses,

1 … The Word, which is a reference to Jesus Christ (see Revelation 19:11-16), was God.

3 …Through Him all things were made.

4 … In Him was life.

Let us now skip a few verses and read from,

John 1:14

"[14] The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."

Now some skeptics have said that Jesus never claimed to be God. However, the New Testament reveals to us that Jesus made it very clear to the Jews and now us as to exactly who He was and is. With this in mind let us now read,

The Witness of Jesus Christ

To see that Jesus made it clear that He was God, let us read what happened between Jesus and the Jews during one of the feasts of Dedication. We find it in,

John 10:22-30

"[22] Then came the Feast of Dedication at Jerusalem. It was winter, [23] and Jesus was in the temple area walking in Solomon's Colonnade. [24] The Jews gathered around him, saying, "How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly." [25] Jesus answered, "I did tell you, but you do not believe. The miracles I do in my Father's name speak for me, [26] but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. [27] My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. [28] I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. [29] My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. [30] I and the Father are one.""

Given the above discourse, the following question comes to mind: "Did the Jews really understand what Jesus was telling them?" To find out let us continue our reading with,

John 10:31-33

"[31] Again the Jews picked up stones to stone him, [32] but Jesus said to them, "I have shown you many great miracles from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?" [33] "We are not stoning you for any of these," replied the Jews, "but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.""

In other words, the Jews knew exactly what Jesus had said. Notice the reason they went to stone Him was that He claimed to be God.

Finally, and most important of all we find that God the Father also bore witness to His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. To see this let us now read an example of,

The Witness of God the Father

To do this let us read what occurred after Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist in the Jordan River. To do this let us read from,

Matthew 3:13-17

"[13] Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. [14] But John tried to deter him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" [15] Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness." Then John consented. [16] As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. [17] And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.""

Let us notice the following verse,

17 … God the Father proclaimed Jesus to be His Son.

This was not the only time God the Father specifically bore witness to the fact that Jesus Christ was His only begotten Son. He also bore witness about His Son Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration. This is recorded for us in,

Mark 9:2-8

"[2] After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. [3] His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. [4] And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus. [5] Peter said to Jesus, "Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters--one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah." [6] (He did not know what to say, they were so frightened.) [7] Then a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and a voice came from the cloud: "This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!" [8] Suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus."

Let us notice the following verses,

3 … Jesus became dazzling white. Thus, Jesus' true nature was revealed.

7 … God the Father bore witness to Peter, James and John that Jesus is His Son.

In reflecting upon all we have covered we come to realize that it was only the physical lineage of Jesus Christ that traces back to King David. However, His spiritual lineage comes directly from God the Father. In other words, Jesus Christ was and is the only begotten Son of God.

The question may arise as to; “Why the Pharisees, elders and the scribes, who were experts in the Law, did not completely recognize Jesus’ true identity?” The answer to this question is that as we read above in verse 7,

IT IS GOD THE FATHER WHO REVEALS TO US THAT JESUS CHRIST IS HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON

To be sure that we understand this correctly let us read about the time when Peter professed his faith in Jesus. To do this we go to,

Matthew 16:13-16

[13] When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” [14] So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” [15] He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” [16] Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” [17] Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

As it was for the other apostles and Jesus’ disciples, it is the same for us. However, during the present period of time God the Father, through the ministry of God the Holy Spirit, reveals to us that Jesus Christ is His Son. He does this through at least the following two mediums.

First, the true Jesus is revealed to us via God’s anointed preaching/teaching of God’s Word. To see this let us read from,

Romans 10:6-15

[6] But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down from above) [7] or, “‘Who will descend into the abyss?’” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). [8] But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): [9] that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. [10] For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. [11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” [12] For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. [13] For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” [14] How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? [15] And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!

Secondly, God reveals Jesus Christ to us by the prayerful reading of His Word. To see this let us read from,

Let us pay particular attention to the following verse

15a … In other words, as it was with the Old Testament prophets, the true anointed messengers of God that preach/teach His Word are those who have been sent by God.

John 20:30-31

[30] And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; [31] but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.
